African Fashion

Fashion (or fashions), and more precisely clothing fashion, refers to the way of dressing, according to the taste of a period in a given region. It is a phenomenon involving the collective via the society, the glance which it returns, the codes which it imposes and the individual taste.

Our story

The notion of fashion cannot be understood from a utilitarian angle, it goes far beyond the need to dress. Fashion has existed since antiquity. The Roman term "modus" means about the same thing as today and in the Middle Ages the word "fashion" is already present with in particular a definition related to clothing, like today.

The eighteenth century marks the birth of the first fashion magazines, including gazettes poorly illustrated, but books on fashion are already present before. The Galerie des modes et costumes français was thus published as early as 1778. Books, engravings, pandora fashion dolls2 are some of the ways in which new trends spread.

The dolls of France are dressed figurines that the ladies take pleasure in introducing themselves and to exchange between them on the occasion of meetings in order to discover and to make discover fashion which does not have yet channels of large-scale distribution.

Traditional wedding

Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally recognised union between people, called spouses, that establishes rights and obligations between them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their in-law.

It is considered a cultural universal, but the definition of marriage varies between cultures and religions, and over time.

Accessories

Accessory is an item used to contribute, in a secondary manner, to the wearer's outfit, often used to complete an outfit and chosen to specifically complement the wearer's look.

It has the capacity to further express an individuals identity and personality as there are accessories that come in different, shapes, sizes, hues etc. The term came into use in the 20th century.

New men's trends

At the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV, the luxury industry was placed under the control of the Crown. France truly became the arbiter of good taste and style in Europe.

The importance of French fashion and its notoriety are partly due to the creation of the fashion press in the early 1670s (notably thanks to Jean Donneau de Visé) which transformed the fashion industry, spreading French silhouettes and trends beyond the Royal Court and popularizing the notions of seasons and changing styles.
